WebPneumothorax occurs when air escapes from ruptured alveoli into the pleural cavity ( the potential space between the lung and the chest wall). Whereas a small collection of air may not compromise the infant, accumulation of larger air volumes may result in collapse of the ipsilateral lung and shift of the mediastinum to the contralateral side.
